Update: April 3, 2012 Japan Fukushima Disaster: Nuclear Reactor Still Has Fatally High Radiation Levels, Little Water

Update: February 15, 2012---25 Million Tons of tsunami debris floating toward US shores.

Update: 5-30-2011 Germany's coalition government has announced a reversal of policy that will see all the country's nuclear power plants phased out by 2022.

Update: 4-23-2011 Japan's meltdown update and the dangers that threaten the West Coast area of America.

Update: 4-5-2011 Tokyo Japan: TEPCO releases 15,000 tons of contaminated groundwater including water from the No. 5 and No. 6 reactors. The radioactive substance released is up to 5 million times the legal limit permitted for release into the environment.

Update: 4-1-2011 Radioactive water from damaged Japan nuclear plant is leaking into the Pacific Ocean, officials tell CNN.

In a matter of minutes, Mother Nature showed the world how defenseless nuclear power plants are when it comes to the unexpected. I hope she has helped put an end to the nuclear power resurgence and any idea of it being a “safe and clean energy source”. The last few decades, have given us a false sense of security concerning nuclear power. There is nothing safe about it!

Do you remember the bill of goods sold to us under the guise that the coal industry was a major threat to our environment? Well, I for one never bought that sham. Nuclear Power is more threatening to our environment then coal ever was and Japan, has experienced the scope of that threat first hand. By the way, guess what they fuel most of the power plants with --- COAL!

Japan, continues their efforts in preventing more potential melt downs; they have 55 nuclear power plants in operation. The latest reports indicate that nuclear fuel rods are out in the open causing a radiation leak. This has exposed thousands of Japanese and U.S. military personnel to serious health risks. High levels of radiation, was also detected in farmlands, food, drinking water, and seeping into the ocean.

Radiation levels continue rising to disturbing levels, causing the government to warn its citizens to "stay indoors". Why --- because the levels can destroy human health. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano stated that, “These readings were taken near the area where it’s believed the releases are occurring."

Since the quake and tsunami it’s undetermined, how many power plants are still operational. If one plant remains operational, that is one too many! Nuclear radiation poses a grave threat to lives, the environment and other resources. This type of risk is extremely dangerous and is unacceptable!

Nuclear damage doesn't go away in a matter of hours, days, weeks or months; it last for years! I have always rallied against nuclear power and Japan's catastrophic event “proves” that nuclear power is not safe in a world where tornado’s, earthquakes, volcanoes, and human error are a part of life’s equation.

Japan experiences several earthquakes a month but no one expected a magnitude of 9.0, followed by a 560 mph tsunami. Was a safety cushion built into their plants with such a force in mind --- NO! In fact, disaster-preventing maintenance was ignored. So, please, review the links in this article and become aware of the severe risk these nuclear plants pose to our children, grandchildren, and the world.

There are several safe and clean alternatives for energy. So, let's raise our voices against the special interests that are destroying our world. Contact your representatives today and say NO to nuclear power!

  • Risk and Dangers of Nuclear Energy
  • Nuclear Plants built on individual specifications for each state or country with no additional safety cushion for unexpected natural forces such as Japan recently experienced
  • Regulators and lobbyist strike deals on Earthquake Response plans worldwide meaning regulations may or may not apply
  • To many plants in the US and the World provide a threat of nuclear destruction to human life and the planet
  • The Pacific Ring of Fire assures that more quakes will follow

I'm with you on this. The negative outcome might be considered "unlikely", but it's severity is just too much.

Thanks for your support and comment on this issue; I offer this quote: “Nuclear power plants are, next to nuclear warheads themselves, the most dangerous devices that man has ever created. Their construction and proliferation is the most irresponsible, in fact the most criminal act ever to have taken place on this planet.”~Patrick Moore, Assault on Future Generations, 1976

The fact that the highly toxic spent fuel rods have to be placed in undergound bunkers and left undisturbed for literally thousands of years only adds to the very real present danger of radioactive contamination which we have seen at Chernobyl and now again in North East Japan. I agree fully with the quote from Patrick Moore.

Atomic power - no thanks!

I agree Tony---ATOMIC POWER-NO THANKS! If only more people would wake up to how dangerous the situation is and take a stand against it...

Love & Peace to you and yours...

Lady_E, thank you and we did have a very relaxed and enjoyable Easter; I hope you had the same. I always appreciate your comments and support especially with an issue this serious. I too feel for the people in Japan. I pray that they can safely suppress the reactors triggering all their problems.

Take Care xx

Thanks for your nice comment RedElf! Since the horrible disaster in Japan, Germany is the only country to announce the closing of all their nuclear power plants. They have committed to a "clean energy" approach.

Meanwhile, other counties (including lobbyist driven America) are renewing their nuclear contracts. After all, Greed-Wealth & Power doesn’t care who it kills, or what it destroys. Wonder if they ever stop to think that they will be are part of the destruction that could occur due to nuclear power.

As far as this type of power being a cost saver --- my electric bill doesn’t reflect a cheaper rate and the power company who provides service to me receives rate increases 4 to 6 times a year.

Nancy

Is it the technology or is it doing things on the cheap because safeguards cost real money?

Take a look a the lack of maintenance on passenger aircraft fleets as an example.

There is an energy shortage in the country and in the world, but there is no real focus on finding solutions.

Thanks
